Dr. B H Nagoor

Dr. B. H. Nagoor is a distinguished economist and Professor in the Department of Economics at Karnatak University, Dharwad, where he currently serves as the Chairman. With over 26 years of teaching experience, he has established himself as a leading academic and policy expert in the field of international economics. He has also been nominated to the Karnataka State Policy and Planning Commission in recognition of his contributions to public policy and research in September 2025.
Dr. Nagoor’s research interests include international trade, trade agreements, political economy, regional integration, and global governance. His work has focused on areas such as the impact of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) — including the ASEAN-India FTA — on specific industries, trade integration and international competitiveness of Indian products, and the broader implications of global trade dynamics for India’s economy. He has published extensively in academic journals, edited volumes, policy documents, reports, and conference proceedings. Additionally, he has written over 30 popular articles in newspapers to engage with the broader public on economic issues.
Throughout his career, Dr. Nagoor has received numerous fellowships and awards. Notably, he was awarded the “Sir Ratan Tata Visiting Fellowship” by the Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC), Bangalore; the “Wrangler D.C. Pavate Memorial Fellowship” to conduct research at the Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, UK; and the “Jnana Fellowship” by the Karnataka Knowledge Commission, under which he contributed to the drafting of the Karnataka State XII Five-Year Plan. Dr. Nagoor is a life member of several professional bodies including the Indian Society of Labour Economics, Indian Society of Agricultural Economics, Regional Science Association of India, Indian Economic Association, Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), and Karnataka Journal of Agricultural Sciences.
